Mountaintop Retreat by Unique Environmental
This mountaintop retreat is located in Suches, Georgia. Unique Enviromental was called to help the homeowners create a landscape that complemented the architecture of their home, not quite what the builder had left them with. Leaving the big city behind was a refreshing change and helped inspire the design of this award-winning landscape.
High on the on the priority list was to create a place to entertain guests in a beautiful outdoor setting. Unique Enviromental created a patio space that incorporated all that the homeowners were looking for in a relatively small space. A paver patio provided the foundation of the entertaining area. A custom covered cedar cooking area was framed with natural stone walls and columns using Tennessee Fieldstone Veneer. The same material was used to create a one-of-a-kind outdoor fireplace. Unique Enviromental also installed a pondless water feature to provide more tranquil sounds of nature for the guests.
No gutters on the log cabin style home created a drainage issue for the landscape. The new design incorporated numerous dry creek beds using Tennessee River Rock that not only complemented the mountain setting, but allowed the rain to flow and filter naturally into the surrounding woodland areas. Water from the driveway was directed into an already existing water feature in the front of the house to keep it full without wasting any water. There are also several flagstone pathways next to the dry creek beds leading around the property.
The creation of a garden allowed the homeowners to enjoy the golden finches and other native birds of the area. Numerous perennials and burying shrubs were planted alongside a strolling path and the dry creek bed. This area was a perfect location to incorporate a cypress log from the home’s original construction. It now serves as a bird and squirrel feeder.
